Australian Society of Animal Production & NZ Society of Animal Production Joint Conference: From Science to Application

The first ever joint meeting of the Australian Society of Animal Production (ASAP) and the New Zealand Society of Animal Production (NZSAP) is a scientific event combining ASAP's 27th Biennial Conference and NZAP's 68th Annual Conference. Emergency Media and Public Affairs Conference: Excellence in Crisis Communications

The aims of the Emergency Media and Public Affairs Conference are:

  • To benchmark the best media liaison and public affairs responses to disaster across Australia and to share lessons learned by practitioners and researchers ;
  • To provide ample opportunity for discussion on topics of common concern to all practitioners so that ideas can be generated and solutions canvassed ;

International Rangelands Congress

Australian Association for Environmental Education Conference 2008: Environmental education up the Track: Hot topics for our community

1-4 July. Darwin, NT.

The Australian Association for Environmental Education (AAEE) is the premier professional association for those who work in the fields of environmental or sustainability education.

Collaborative projects across our communities are a primary focus of this conference. Participants will highlight successes, difficulties and lessons learned from dealing with hot topics such as global warming, water and waste management, energy options, fire ecology, ecological footprint management and biodiversity in all sectors.

Julie Crough of the TS-CRC  will be making a presentation on Environorth, the educational website for  the savannas.

ASERA 2008: Australian Science Education Research Association Conference

Teachers’ day: How can research inform classroom practices?

The final day of the ASERA conference will be allocated to sessions on research in science education that are relevant for science teachers. Teachers will be able to choose from a number of sessions that will cater for all year levels from early childhood through to secondary.

There will be workshops in the afternoon with guest speakers that will provide opportunity for lively debate and discussion on topical issues in science education. This is a valuable opportunity for teachers to learn about the current research in science education as well as to contribute to the collective knowledge on science teaching.

Australasian Law Teachers Association (ALTA) Conference—The Law, the  Environment, Indigenous Peoples: Climate for Change

The Australasian Law Teachers Association (ALTA) Conference is an annual legal conference organised by a host law school in conjunction with ALTA. In 2008 James Cook University will be the host law school.

The conference offers delegates a number of plenary sessions and also provides a forum for in excess of 30 legally related interest groups to meet, hear from leaders in the field and to discuss current legal issues.

'Stocktake' Practical Training Workshop

8-9 July. Katherine, NT 

Developed by the Qld Dept of Primary Industries & Fisheries, Stocktake is a paddock-scale land condition monitoring and management package, giving grazing land managers a practical systematic way to assess land condition and long-term carrying capacity and to calculate seasonal forage budgets.

Features include paddock scale assessment with recognition of the different land types within a paddock and grazing land monitoring in terms of ecosystem health and long-term paddock productivity. Stocktake is being used to manage and interpret data in a way that is useful for business planning and quantifying the potential for improvement in productivity.

Cost of the workshop is $275 per person includes all materials.

Remote Health Conference 2008 - Are You Remotely Interested?

15–17 August. Mount Isa, Qld

Venue: Mount Isa Civic Centre and Red Earth Hotel

Every two years Mount Isa hosts a conference aimed at bringing together people with an interest in all aspects of health in remote Australia. The purpose of this year's Conference is to provide a forum for information exchange and debate about issues relevant to remote health with a particular focus on the following themes:

  • clinical practice in remote areas;
  • population Health including Indigenous health;
  • workforce supply, education and training;
  • research outcomes such as innovation in health service delivery.

This conference is convened by the Mount Isa Centre for Rural and Remote Health in collaboration with a range of stakeholders including, Queensland Health, the Royal Flying Doctors Service, James Cook University, and North and West Queensland Primary Health Care.

4th Australia-New Zealand Climate Change Business Conference

Coast to Coast Conference 2008: Coast to Coast Collaboration: Crossing Boundaries

Australia's biennial national coastal conference will focus debate, discussion and learning across the full range of coastal and marine issues - at the international, national, state, regional and local levels. The 2008 Conference Program will feature a number of outstanding local and international speakers, several concurrent sessions, poster presentations and a fantastic choice of field trips at the end of the conference. The Conference attracts over 400 delegates from across Australia and overseas and provides a wonderful opportunity to meet and extend contacts.

Discovery Rise - Pathways to Sustainability Workshop

Discovery Rise is an integrated academic, residential and commercial community that will revitalise
James Cook University's Townsville campus.

This place-based design approach is to ensure that with Discovery Rise JCU will become a sustainability exemplar. Australasian Fire Authorities Council (AFAC)/International Bushfire Research Conference (IBRC) 2008: Fire Environment & Society—From research into practice

In addition to the annual AFAC Conference in 2008, The Bushfire CRC will stage it’s first International Bushfire Research Conference (IBRC). This will mark the conclusion of the first five years of the Bushfire CRC’s operations, and highlight the advances made and international alliances formed by the CRC in that time.

The program is aimed at advancing the knowledge and practice of fire agencies, land managers, community safety practioners and researchers. Topics will include:

14th Australian Remote Sensing and Photogrammetry Conference (ARSPC)

The ARSPC is the RS&P Commission’s premier conference showcasing the best of Australasia’s technical and application driven remote sensing and photogrammetry research. Biodiversity Information Standards (TDWG) Annual Conference 2008
